The tools we use every day were designed to keep us looking, not to serve the person holding the phone. That is a decision made in the architecture, long before anyone writes a policy about it.
Consciousness matters here because software inherits the attention of the people who build it. A distracted, extractive process produces distracted, extractive products. We work on both at once, in the same building, during the same week.

Why Ericeira
The place is part of the method.
Ericeira is a World Surfing Reserve, one of a handful anywhere. The ocean sets the rhythm of the day here, and that rhythm is better for thinking than an office park is.
The town is already full of engineers, designers and founders. Most of them arrive, work remotely for six months and leave, and their skills never touch the place they live in. We want them to stay and build with the people who are from here.
Lisbon is under an hour away, so the research institutes, the capital and the airport are all in reach without living inside them.
Ethical technology cannot be an afterthought. It has to be built into the architecture from day one.
